WORK GROUP SUGGESTIONS FOR MAKING YOUR VISIT
A PLEASANT AND PROFITABLE EXPERIENCE

Although times have changed, and with them social customs and personal attire, the basic culture in this part of Haiti is relatively stable.  In order to have the Haitians who live here at EGO better fit into the surrounding culture and the Christian community, we must refrain from having them exposed to the changes that are so prevalent in the United States.  Therefore, we strongly suggest the following, and ask that you would carefully and prayerfully consider each item.

ALL
  • The only acceptable jewelry is a wedding band and watch.
  • Shorts, sleeveless shirts and tank tops are inappropriate.
  • Make every effort not to display “wealth.”
  • Do not give any personal information.  If you would like to correspond with anyone at EGO, please do so through the mission. Give out general information only.
  • Gifts given to certain individuals only make others feel neglected.  Also, some gifts are inappropriate in Haitian culture. If you have clothing
or gifts that you would like to leave, please leave them with those in authority.  Also, please do not specify certain gifts to certain
children. Please help us with this, and it will eliminate some problems we’ve had in the past.
  • Most of the children understand English even though they may not speak it.
Please be careful and adjust your conversations accordingly.
  • The children love music! Bring your instruments and voices to glorify God. No Rock or
  Rap music please.
  • EGO children should not be interrupted when they are busy with church, homework or chores.
  • While staying in the EGO Guest House, please adhere to the rules posted in the house
regarding cleanliness, trash disposal, and other  maintenance requirements. This will help
ensure the house is left in great shape for the next visitors.

LADIES
  • No pants or shorts, knee-length dresses or skirts only.  Dress modestly—no low-cut blouses,
please. Loose-fitting clothing will serve you best in the hot climate.
  • Refrain from the use of make-up

MEN
  • Knee-length shorts, tee-shirts or cotton shirts and light weight pants.  Long pants are required for church.

CHILDREN
  • Please consult staff before bringing children to visit. You are responsible for your children, and they must be under your team’s adult supervision at all times.

BRING YOUR BIBLE FOR STRENGTH, SUNSCREEN FOR PROTECTION, AND INSECT REPELLENT FOR THE PESKY CREATURES!

Thanks for your consideration and cooperation. We appreciate your help and trust that you will have a blessed stay. PRAY FOR HAITI!
